Max Saunders is a ceramics MFA candidate graduating in spring 2022. His ceramic work is an exploration of texture and form that references archeology, geological erosion, and ideas of time. From 2013 to 2018 he lived in Asheville, North Carolina, where he learned to fire a wide range of wood kilns. This communal process has been influential on both his art and life. He has built kilns and worked professionally as an artist and a teacher. At USU he has continued these explorations and led several beginner wood firings for both the community “lifespan” class and intermediate hand building courses.
