Winter in Logan

USU Old Main in winter

If you know what to do and where to go in Cache Valley, winter can be one of the best seasons of the year. Here are some fun activities to do as the snow falls.

Go Skiing or Snowboarding at Beaver Mountain or Cherry Peak

Utah is said to have the best snow on earth, so take advantage by visiting one of the resorts in the valley: Beaver Mountain or Cherry Peak. If you are really feeling dedicated, check out the student discounts on season passes.

Book a Weekend at the USU Yurt

Many don’t know that Utah State has this resource, but the Mongolian-style yurt is paid for by student fees so it is free for students to use. Grab some snowshoes and head to the Outdoor Programs office to book your weekend at the Blind Hollow Yurt. There is no better way to warm up with some exercise and sometime next to a wood burning stove.

See the Elk at Hardware Ranch

One of the great Cache Valley traditions is the annual Elk Festival, which kicks off elk season. You get the opportunity to see the elk at Hardware Ranch by sleigh. The opportunity to see the elk by sleigh ride lasts all winter.

USU Men

Watch a Basketball or Hockey Game or Gymnastics Meet

Get out and support your Aggies with the best student section out there. Check out the schedule and grab some friends to join. Athletics games are free with a student ID. Hockey games are $5 with a student ID.

Go Sledding

Grab your largest cookie sheet and head out to USU’s front lawn for an exhilarating ride down Old Main. If the hill is too busy, check out some of the other hills in Logan such as at Mount Logan, Lundstrom, or Bridgerland Park.

See a USU Production

Productions in the USU Theater Department are free for students and always fun. Support your fellow students as they pursue their talents.

Rent Winter Gear from the OP and Enjoy the Outdoors

The Outdoor Program rents a variety of winter gear, from snowshoes to cross-country skis to fat bikes, so that you can continue to take advantage of the beautiful outdoors that Logan offers.

The Utah Theatre in Logan, Utah

See a Movie at the Utah Theatre

The Utah Theatre is one of the oldest in Logan and is always playing a variety of films. Some days, you can even catch a live performance.

Check out their site to see the schedule.

Go Ice Skating at the Eccles Ice Center

The Eccles ice rink has open hours each week where the public are invited to try out the ice. Don’t worry about bringing your own skates, you cant rent them there.

Find the Best Cup of Hot Cocoa

If there is one thing that Utahans like, it’s hot chocolate. Participate in the grand search by discovering what you think is the best cup in the valley.

Is it at Café Ibis? The Crepery? Kneaders? Only you can decide!
