Angela Minichiello is an associate professor in the Utah State University Department of Engineering Education, a registered professional mechanical engineer, and a U.S. Army veteran. Angela received her bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Subsequently, she served for seven years on active duty in the U.S. Army, Aviation Branch, as a commissioned officer and rotary wing pilot. Upon her honorable discharge, Angela received her master’s degree in mechanical engineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology as a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellow. She spent the next decade as a practicing mechanical and thermal systems engineer with the Hewlett Packard Company and the Space Dynamics Laboratory. Angela began instructing undergraduate engineering courses in 2004, earning a Ph.D. in engineering education in 2016. Throughout her career, Angela has served as PI (9) or CoPI (3) on 12 engineering or engineering education research grants funded by agencies that include the National Science Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, and the Office of Naval Research. Her research interests center on engineering professional formation of students from underserved groups, student self-regulation during engineering problem solving, accessible educational technology in engineering, and narrative research methodologies and pedagogies.
