Graduate Student Teacher of the Year Nominations

Submissions are now open for the Graduate Student Teacher of the Year. Please send submissions by January 26, 2024.

The School of Graduate Studies seeks nominations from colleges for outstanding graduate students to be considered for the Graduate Student Teacher of the Year Award. Submissions can only be made by the college deans’ offices, and each college may nominate only one student for this recognition.

Selection Process

  1. Colleges should seek broad input to identify college nominees.
  2. Colleges should utilize a college-specific process of selection.
  3. College deans will make the final decision in selecting the college Graduate Student Teacher of the Year.
  4. The college deans’ office will fill out the online form to submit their nominee for consideration.
  5. USUSA—in consultation with the School of Graduate Studies—will select the Graduate Student Teacher of the Year from the nominees submitted through the online form.

Nominee Criteria

The student must be selected and endorsed by their college dean.

Required Materials

The following materials are required for a nomination submission:

  • A 60-word summary of why the nominee was selected.
  • A curriculum vitae of no more than three pages that highlights the student’s teaching activities.
  • A letter of nomination from the nominee’s dean, department head, or major professor.
  • Up to three letters of support from students in the course(s) taught by the nominee that address specific examples of the nominee’s teaching, work, and effectiveness.
  • A two-page statement from the candidate that includes a teaching philosophy, summary of teaching experiences with an emphasis on USU, and student feedback.
  • A one-page summary of teaching evaluations.
  • A 200-word bio of the nominee written in third person.
  • Please attach a professional portrait of your nominee (at least 1000 pixels high, titled FirstName_LastName.jpg).  Note that photographs will not be given to the selection committee, but will be used in publicity materials and recognition events. 
  • Please attach a candid photo of your nominee (a landscape-orientation photo, 1920X1080 minimum size), engaged in activity related to their nomination (teaching, working with students, doing research in the office, lab or field, etc.). Note that photographs will not be given to the selection committee, but will be used in publicity materials and recognition events. 

Recognition

The recipient will be recognized at Utah State University’s Robins Awards Ceremony on April 5, 2024, and will receive a $300 monetary award.
