Associate Vice Provost for Graduate Studies

OVERVIEW

The School of Graduate Studies at Utah State University seeks a goal-oriented and experienced faculty member to serve as Associate Vice Provost of Graduate Studies in a part-time (year-round 0.40 FTE) administrative position.  The Associate Vice Provost provides assistance to the Vice Provost of Graduate Studies in supporting graduate education and research.  Goals of the School of Graduate Studies include: attracting, retaining, and training high-quality graduate students from diverse backgrounds; promoting academic excellence and advancing creative efforts to enhance graduate education; serving as a catalyst to develop and expand graduate programs in keeping with the land-grant mission of the university; and fostering a culture of graduate education that is both innovative in its support of faculty, staff, and students and one that respects and adheres to policies regarding integrity and ethics.  The Associate Vice Provost reports directly to the Vice Provost of Graduate Studies. 

RESPONSIBILITIES

The specific duties of the Associate Vice Provost will be assigned by the Vice Provost of Graduate Studies and may include:

  1. Assist in the oversight of day-to-day operations of the School of Graduate Studies, including staffing, task delegation and communications with departments and students.
  2. Assist colleges and departments in creating and implementing all graduate degree and professional programs.
  3. Help to manage the application and admission of students to the School of Graduate Studies.
  4. Provide professional development training for graduate students and faculty.
  5. Participate in, and provide leadership of, strategic graduate initiatives, including the recruitment, retention, development, and support of graduate students.
  6. Represent the Office of the School of Graduate Studies on university committees.
  7. Perform additional duties as assigned by, and in consultation with, the Vice Provost.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Tenured and academic rank of associate or full professor, with an outstanding record of scholarship.
  2. Demonstrated commitment to graduate education in the current higher education environment and experience teaching and mentoring graduate students.
  3. Record of successful program development and leadership.
  4. Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  5. Excellent interpersonal and team-building skills.
  6. Demonstrated ability to be self-motivated, work under deadlines, and achieve the timely completion of high-quality work.
  7. Ability to innovatively problem-solve.
  8. Demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion among faculty, staff and students Have demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.
  9. Understanding of, and commitment to, the land-grand mission.

PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Experience with managing budgets.
  2. Experience working effectively with diverse constituents.
  3. Knowledge of, or experience, with, USU systems such as Banner, Curriculog, Excel.
  4. Working knowledge of USU Policies.
