Christopher M. Scheer is an Associate Professor of Musicology at Utah State University. Dr. Scheer is one of the leading scholars on the music and life of the British composer Gustav Holst, and British musical culture of the late-nineteenth and early 20th centuries. He also maintains an active secondary field of study on the intersection of Western Esotericism and music in the twentieth century. Dr. Scheer’s work has been published by Boydell, Ashgate, Fulgur, Cambridge University and in the Journal of Victorian Culture and Journal of Musicological Research. He was the recipient of both a Leverhulme Visiting International Scholar and a Leverhulme International Networking Grant. The result of the latter was the hugely influential “Enchanted Modernities: Theosophy and the Arts” project. He has served as Vice-President of the North American British Music Studies Association, and is chair of their Linda Shaver-Gleason Awards. Currently Scheer is working on two projects: a life and works monograph of Holst, and an edited collection of scholarship which seeks to revitalize Holst studies.
