Matt Yost

Dr. Matt Yost is a native of southern Idaho where he was raised on a dairy farm. After completing his PhD in Applied Plant Science at the University of Minnesota, he spent 4 years doing postdoctoral research in the Midwest. He is currently an assistant professor and agroclimate extension specialist at Utah State University. His current research and extension efforts center on optimizing water use in agriculture, soil health, precision agriculture, and adaptive nutrient management. He is the director of USU crops – a team of 25 Extension faculty conducting coordinated research and outreach that has educated and assisted thousands of stakeholders. He has or is mentoring 11 graduate students, who have been integral to conducting over 200 on-farm research trials in 7 states, and publishing over 200 peer-reviewed journal articles, Extension articles, and proceedings/abstracts. Dr. Yost and his students have presented their research to over 8,000 stakeholders in 150 Extension-related meetings. Their collaborative research has also garnered over $10 million in grant and contract funding. He is currently an associate editor for Agronomy Journal, has served the Tri-Societies (Agronomy, Soils, and Crops) in various capacities, and was recently honored with three early career awards professional societies and USU Extension.
